Climate change is a moving issue. It is a topic of discussion in political debates, in the media and at the family dinner table. With the recently published planning report on future climate and energy policy, the Lucerne government council shows how the canton of Lucerne is meeting the challenges of climate change and wants to become climate-neutral by 2050.

Questions and answers about climate change

With the climate campaign "Lucerne becomes climate neutral", the canton of Lucerne now wants to show its population what net zero greenhouse gas emissions mean and what is needed for a climate-neutral future. The campaign addresses the most important questions about climate change and resolves them with understandable answers. After all, questions are the most natural way to approach a topic. Everyone asks questions about topics that concern them but that they don't understand or can't grasp.

The campaign was launched in mid-November by sending a postcard to all Lucerne households with an initial question tailored to the community in which they live. For example: "When will climate change come to Emmen?". After a brief explanation that climate change has long since arrived in the canton of Lucerne, readers were invited to post on the campaign website Lucerne-becomes-climate-neutral.ch to ask their unanswered questions. The canton's climate expert and other experts will answer the most exciting questions submitted. With a little luck, the questioners can win an attractive, climate-friendly prize.

In addition, the campaign elements are disseminated via social media, owned media and advertising on public transport. The campaign relies on a simple visual language by staging the climate issues in a big way and framing them with striking visuals. The monochrome background leaves the big stage to the questions.

The campaign can be followed on Facebook and Instagram with the hashtag #KlimaKantonLuzern.

Now that Jörg Bruppacher (left) and Andreas Renggli (right) have decided to jointly manage the Polarstern communications agency, the next logical step follows: their two companies are merging to form Polarstern AG.

The merger will take place retroactively as of January 1, 2019. Polarstern AG is headquartered in Lucerne and is wholly owned by the two managing partners Andreas Renggli and Jörg Bruppacher. The company also continues to operate a second site in Solothurn.

Since 1979, Bruppacher & Partner has implemented marketing communications for clients such as Ilford, Bosch, Von Roll, Swiss Technology Award, Mammut, the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland, Regio Energie Solothurn, SwissShrimp, Authentica and the Canton of Solothurn.

With its focus on sustainability communication, Polarstern GmbH has been advising clients such as Migros, Swisscom, PostFinance, Luzerner Kantonalbank, Lifefair, Hexagon, Radix and several federal offices, including the SFOE, FOEN, FOPH and ARE, since 2007.

This merger brings together two small agencies with the aim of pooling their strengths and expanding their range of services.

The core competence of Jörg Bruppacher (on the right in the picture) is the visual communication of complex contents, especially of sustainability topics. The 42-year-old from Solothurn originally studied at the University of Design in Schwäbisch Gmünd. After an internship at the brand agency KMS Team in Munich, his path led him back to Solothurn to his father's marketing agency, which was founded in 1979. In 2015, he took over the management of Bruppacher & Partner.

His track record includes corporate design and corporate communications for subsidiaries of the Bosch Group, co-founding, brand development and corporate design for the startup SwissShrimp (Marketing Trophy 2016), co-founding and corporate design of Authentica, a trade fair for sustainably active small producers, signaling and multimedia presentations for the energy provider Regio Energie Solothurn, graphics for Mammut Sports and the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW), corporate design and corporate publishing for the Swiss Federal Office of Energy and the Federal Office for Spatial Development.

"Visual communication will continue to gain in importance," Polarstern founder Andreas Renggli is convinced. "Together with our customers, we want to develop their communication in the future in an even more agile and integrated way in the sense of co-creation. That's why we combine our conceptual, editorial and visual know-how." The Lucerne native has already been working with Jörg Bruppacher for several years. The two also initiated the first coworking space in the canton of Solothurn in a former screw factory in 2015. The coworking space networks people who are committed to ecological, social and economic sustainability.

The communication agency Polarstern was founded in 2007 and focuses on sustainability communication. Today, it consists of a team of ten employees who work at the two locations in Lucerne and Solothurn for Migros, Swisscom, the Luzerner Kantonalbank, the FHNW, numerous SMEs and several federal offices.
