Platform X, which has been blocked in Brazil, has paid a fine of millions to have the blockade lifted by the Brazilian authorities. The chief judge Alexandre de Moraes announced on Friday that the fine had been paid in full. A source familiar with the matter confirmed to the AFP news agency that X had made a payment of 4.42 million Swiss francs.

The background to the block is a dispute between billionaire Elon Musk, the owner of X, and the Brazilian judicial authorities. Musk had sharply criticized the court's decision to block the platform due to the dissemination of false information and invoked freedom of expression. Since the end of August, X has no longer been accessible to the approximately 22 million users in Brazil, with a few exceptions. However, the latest payment could allow the platform to return to the Brazilian market.
