The implementation of the national fundraising campaign for the Salvation Army Switzerland Foundation was preceded by a pitch, from which Koller Direct emerged as the winner thanks to its creative and conceptual approach. Following the successful pitch, the fundraising campaign was produced in a large print run and distributed throughout Switzerland in November 2025.
The goal of the fundraising campaign was to highlight the hardship faced by many people during the Christmas season while also demonstrating in concrete terms how donations help. The campaign was based on the central question: «An empty plate instead of a festive meal?» It highlights the contrast between festive abundance and existential hardship—in a wealthy country like Switzerland.
Koller Direct developed an eye-catching direct mail campaign: A three-dimensional paper plate, packaged in a square envelope, stood out thanks to its tactile feel and 3D appearance. The empty plate, which recipients had to actively remove from the envelope, made the shortage immediately tangible and led directly to the donation appeal.
The enclosed flyer provided more detailed information about the fundraising campaign. It specifically highlighted how the Salvation Army helps people through donations: by providing free beds, meals, and a listening ear through its numerous social services. The focus was on the personal story of Nicolas (59), who, after years of homelessness, regained stability, dignity, and hope thanks to the Salvation Army’s support. His statement that a warm meal is important not only for the body but also for the soul lent the fundraising appeal authenticity and emotional depth.
The national fundraising campaign achieved very encouraging results with a positive ROI. It combined powerful symbolism, a tactile experience, and personal storytelling, and vividly demonstrated how donations can «spark hope.».
