Interact Media Group (IMG), operator of the news portal nau.ch, is acquiring Zeitungshaus AG, a subsidiary of Robinvest. At the same time, Robinvest is acquiring a 15 percent stake in IMG. With this transaction, the group combines 23 free newspapers with a total circulation of 700,000 copies and 4 million monthly users in the digital sector.

Local print strength meets digital reach

IMG operates the national news portal nau.ch with over 4 million monthly users. With the takeover of Zeitungshaus AG, the Group is uniting 23 free newspapers under one roof. The company thus combines strong local print brands with digital expertise and contributes know-how in the areas of technology, data analysis and digital marketing. This creates new growth opportunities for the titles across all channels.

The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. Rahel Blocher and Andreas Schaffner, former members of the Board of Directors of Zeitungshaus AG, will join the existing Board members Olivier Chuard, Yves Kilchenmann and Stefan Kilchenmann on the Board of Directors of IMG, thus ensuring the continuity of the titles.

Zeitungshaus AG unites 22 regional free newspapers in Switzerland with strong local roots and a wide reach in their respective markets. Through its subsidiaries, it is the publisher of Aarauer Nachrichten, Lenzburger Nachrichten, Zofinger Nachrichten, Bodensee Nachrichten, Kreuzlinger Nachrichten, Weinfelder Nachrichten, Frauenfelder Nachrichten, Untersee Nachrichten, Oberthurgauer Nachrichten, Neue Oltner Zeitung, Rheintaler Bote, St. Galler Nachrichten, Gossauer Nachrichten, Herisauer Nachrichten, Toggenburger Zeitung, See & Gaster Zeitung, Wiler Nachrichten, Winterthurer Zeitung, Zuger Woche, Furttaler, Rümlanger and Tagblatt der Stadt Zürich.

IMG acquired BärnerBär, Bern's largest free weekly newspaper, a year ago. The experience gained in combining print and digital served as a reference and strategic basis for the recent takeover of Zeitungshaus AG.
