How many cell phones can be charged? How many soft drinks can be chilled? How many cups of tea can be brewed—or how many legs can be epilated? The new ewz Limmatstrom campaign provides billions of answers to all these questions. Instead of kilowatt-hours and technical jargon, ewz relies on everyday comparisons, surprising images, and plenty of conversation starters about regional energy production.

Giant everyday objects in front of the Letten Power Plant

In front of the Letten power plant, giant everyday objects appear, revealing what would otherwise remain invisible: the enormous amount of electricity that ewz produces each year. Studio Marvin Hugentobler is behind the campaign and is responsible for its creative execution. The campaign has been running since June 22 on posters, tram posters, audio spots, display ads, and social media.

"Limmat Love" on Radio Energy and at the Filmfluss

Starting July 3, ewz will be featuring the «Limmat Love» theme week on Radio Energy—with stories about water, people, and electricity production. The ewz Limmat Strom campaign will be complemented by an exclusive appearance at the Filmfluss open-air cinema right on the Limmat. Anyone who wants to test their knowledge can also take the Limmat Strom quiz online.

ewz Solar Pioneer Campaign: When Solar Power Cools Down Everyday Life

More than 6,000 Zurich residents have already signed up for solar power from their neighborhood. To help reach the 10,000 mark soon, Studio Marvin Hugentobler has teamed up with ewz to develop a follow-up campaign—the ewz Solar Pioneer Campaign. The campaign aims to encourage the general public to incorporate solar energy into their daily lives.

As a solar pioneer, ewz has launched the product ewz.solarquartier. This brings together solar power consumers and solar power producers directly within the neighborhood. The product is a practical implementation of the concept of a “Local Electricity Community” (LEG) and, according to ewz, is intended to create a win-win-win situation that will benefit the energy transition in particular. This is because it will drive the expansion of solar power in the city of Zurich.

An oversized solar panel ice cream cone as a creative idea

Based on market research findings, the creative concept of an oversized three-dimensional object made of solar panels was developed. In keeping with the sunny weather, an ice-cold ice cream was featured—an everyday product that exemplifies what can be sustainably powered by solar energy from the neighborhood. According to the press release, the motif blends perfectly into the station district, where historic buildings and the new Zurich coexist in a forward-looking way.

Marco Good, campaign manager at ewz, explains: «The campaign not only highlights ewz’s innovative strength, but also encourages the general public to incorporate solar energy into their daily lives.»

Posters as the Main Medium for the ewz Solar Pioneer Campaign

To minimize wasted coverage as much as possible, posters were chosen as the primary medium in the city of Zurich. According to the press release, this also aligns with the sustainability message: Industry figures show that outdoor advertising using posters has the lowest CO₂ emissions per 1,000 impressions among all advertising media. In parallel, the campaign is supported by direct mail to households, social media featuring local influencers, and the online magazine Powernewz.

Instead of using CO2 guzzlers such as oil and gas, ewz is already heating with lake water. This type of heat generation is environmentally friendly, is constantly being expanded, but is still little known. The new campaign aims to make the general public more aware of ewz's contribution to decarbonizing the heating landscape and achieving the city's net-zero target.

The striking campaign motif stages a giant Zürisee water bed bottle against the backdrop of the city in the morning light. An everyday object that people like to cuddle up to becomes a symbolic image for a technically complex topic that could quickly become overwhelming. This is how optimistic Zurich's energy future looks.

Ingo: Mit Ewz-Energie zu 1,5 Milliarden Smoothies jährlich https://www.markt-kom.com/en/kreativity/kampagnen/ingo-mit-ewz-energie-zu-15-milliarden-smoothies-jaehrlich/ Mon, May 5, 2025, 12:43:44 AM +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=234106

Ewz produces enough renewable energy in its own solar and hydropower plants in Zurich and Graubünden to cover 100% of customers' daily electricity requirements in the basic supply. This guarantees security of supply and stable prices - and the supply is also environmentally friendly and conserves resources. Other energy suppliers have to buy in international electricity trading and pass the prices on to their customers.

In order to convey such technical facts emotionally, Ingo has created a campaign that presents Ewz's differentiating feature in a pointed and surprisingly relevant way. "You take the annual production of electricity that is generated locally in reservoirs, at the Letten hydropower plant or on Zurich's solar roofs. Then you divide it by the amount of electricity a household appliance - such as a blender, toaster or robot vacuum cleaner - needs per use," explains Katrin Rüesch, Senior Campaign Manager at Ewz. That gives you the millions and billions, but they also need to be accompanied by vivid visuals.

Jonathan Heyer has realized the films and images in meticulous detail. "The idea differentiates Ewz for both the heart and the brain and appeals to both through its striking nature," explains Samuel Wicki, Creative Director at Ingo. This is a charming way of raising awareness of the fact that the energy for normal everyday electrical things comes from local Ewz production sites in Switzerland: "Your energy - 100% homemade".

The campaign can be seen from Monday until mid-June in Zurich and Graubünden in videos, on posters, on public transport, on social media, digitally and in cinemas. In addition, the community will be introduced to the Drop game "Catch fruit and win an e-bike" activated.

BlueGlass | Team Farner gewinnt Pitches von Ewz, Zermatters und Sprüngli https://www.markt-kom.com/en/markom/etats/blueglass-team-farner-gewinnt-pitches-von-ewz-zermatters-und-spruengli/ Tue, Apr 22, 2025 1:54:08 PM +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=233678

The Zurich-based agency was once again able to prevail against competitors in a public tender process and will continue the mandate for Ewz. BlueGlass has been supporting the energy service provider in the areas of SEO, SEA, UX, analytics, social media and community management since 2021. The collaboration will now be extended for several years.

BlueGlass also won two other pitches: a new website is being developed for "Zermatters", a provider of outdoor experiences in Zermatt. The future platform will be characterized by a close integration of content and commerce as well as improved findability via search engines. BlueGlass is responsible for the concept, screen design and content approach in a multilingual setup. In addition, the agency is supporting Zermatters with an SEO workshop for the independent creation of further content with increased visibility.

Confiserie Sprüngli will also be relying on the expertise of BlueGlass in future. Together with its technical partner Sitewerk, the agency prevailed in a multi-stage selection process. The aim is to further develop the concept for the company's digital presence.

In a three-part recruiting campaign, the agency is drawing attention to the profession of grid electrician for Ewz. With a creative twist, the versatile possibilities of this profession are put in the spotlight. The campaign uses the well-known high-voltage danger sign, which normally warns of electric shock, as a central element. The classic warnings are creatively modified on the three different subjects, which show typical workplaces of electricians.

Highly exciting tasks

Instead of "Attention high voltage", the signs feature headlines such as "Highly exciting opportunities", "Highly exciting assignments" and "Highly exciting tasks". They emphasize the dynamism, responsibility and versatility of the profession and encourage interested parties to find out more.

With the context of the subject backgrounds - solar power system, construction site, power plant - the danger sign is also a kind of invitation: Anyone interested in the profession of grid electrician can take a look behind the scenes and behind the warning signs and discover what opportunities this profession offers - whether as an apprentice, career changer, grid electrician or group leader.

The campaign is now being displayed on various billboards throughout the city and leads interested parties to the Landing page.

Ewz ist im Quiz-Fieber https://www.markt-kom.com/en/kreativity/kampagnen/ewz-ist-im-quiz-fieber/ Mon, Oct 21, 2024 1:17:20 PM +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=225272

For Forbes Top Ten Marketer Neil Patel Quizzes are one of the most underestimated tools in marketing. As Ewz, the electricity utility of the city of Zurich, often has to communicate complex topics, the company evaluated suitable tools and found what it was looking for three years ago with Brame.io. For several years now, Ewz has been encouraging the public to take part in quizzes and test their knowledge - and voluntarily engage with the brand for a few minutes.

The ongoing heat quiz is currently raising awareness among the general public about how Ewz Zurich can provide climate-friendly heating and thus contribute to achieving the city of Zurich's net-zero targets. The campaign is also using posters for the first time, accompanied by streetcar posters, a digital campaign and social media.

Ewz also uses the quiz tool in sponsoring to impart knowledge: for example, the climate quiz at the ZSC home games. The HR quiz is used for employee recruitment at trade fairs and provides a different approach to inclusion and diversity. Internally, the emergency number quiz is a fun way to teach the right behavior when things get serious. The seven corporate governance principles are communicated in a playful way in the "My contribution" quiz.

Performance is also a goal. In the B2B sector, for example, the data center quiz is used to generate leads. The energy quiz, which is specifically geared towards efficiency, brings energy consulting services closer. Biodiversity is the driver for the encyclopaedic fish quiz. Interaction and participation with very different target groups can thus be measured in a variety of ways.

Freundliche Grüsse sucht für Ewz und EKZ nach Power https://www.markt-kom.com/en/kreativity/kampagnen/freundliche-gruesse-sucht-fuer-ewz-und-ekz-nach-power/ Wed, Sep 11, 2024 4:09:55 PM +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=223192

The two electricity companies Ewz and EKZ have entered into a cooperation for the current lateral entry campaign. Under the motto "Join Team Power", they are looking for potential career changers from other related trades who would like to do an apprenticeship at one of the two companies for a full salary.

Grid electricians ensure that Zurich is supplied with electricity. The Freundliche Grüsse campaign dramatizes this aspect directly in the advertising material. As smartphones are ubiquitous today, the video ad begins with an empty battery being recharged by a grid electrician. The slogan "Join Team Power" is aimed specifically at professionals who might be interested in a career change as a grid electrician. And the basic idea of the campaign makes it clear how important the work of grid electricians is for the entire canton.

The campaign uses video ads to quickly bring the professional world of network electricians to life, as well as real network electricians from EKZ and Ewz. It has a clear mobile and social-first approach and leads to the landing page Teampower.chwhere interested parties can register for the information event or send a quick application directly to Recruiting.

Ewz und TBWA\Zürich zeigen Generationenporträts https://www.markt-kom.com/en/kreativity/kampagnen/ewz-und-tbwazuerich-zeigen-generationenportraets/ Mon, Jul 29, 2024 7:36:30 AM +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=217957

At the end of 2023, 447,082 people lived in the city of Zurich, more than ever before. In the middle scenario The population is expected to reach around 515,000 by 2040. More population means more electric cars, more AI and more heat pumps - and all of this requires more electricity. The net-zero targets also require solutions with renewable energies.

Ewz is therefore continuously expanding the use of local energy sources, for example for 100% natural electricity from its own and partner power plants, with the construction of the lake water network for Coolcity or by promoting solar roofs. These are generational projects - new energy for generations.

Because common interests unite the generations of today and tomorrow - across all age groups, skin colors, educational levels and energy needs - TBWA\Zurich developed the idea of generational portraits. "We really liked the idea of cross-generational groups being recognizable as belonging together through specific characteristics," explains Sina Gelin, Account Director at TBWA\Zurich.

The subjects were realized with the photographer duo Braschler Fischer, also known for their series "The Human Face of Climate Change". The poster campaign starts on Monday and can be seen in Zurich and Graubünden for around a month.

"Along the customer journey, we pick people up on the street with posters, reach them digitally on the move with mobile targeting from Aymo and accompany them home on the streetcar and on social media with the energy quiz, which deepens their knowledge of renewable energies," explains Katrin Rüesch, Senior Campaign Manager at Ewz.

Ingo und Ewz portraitieren Solarzürcher:innen https://www.markt-kom.com/en/kreativity/kampagnen/ingo-und-ewz-portraitieren-solarzuercherinnen/ Tue, May 21, 2024 11:42:43 PM +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=215297

Both tenants and homeowners can contribute to Zurich becoming a solar city even faster. An Ewz solar share is available for CHF 250 per square meter, and an unused roof can be made available for an Ewz solar system without any investment costs.

Ingo's campaign shows solar Zurich residents calling on people to join the ever-growing solar movement. Well-known faces from the city such as sustainability blogger Annina Mutter, DJ David Suivez and John Baker founder Jens Jung were also in front of photographer Raphaela Pichler's lens.

The poster campaign is intended to pick up the urban population on the move and is mainly present at streetcar stops. QR codes on hanging boxes on public transport also allow people to delve deeper into the topic and make a direct purchase via the landing page. Social media and e-mailings are also intended to generate traffic and conversions. In the Zürcher-Kombi of Lokalinfo, an advertisement and article remind readers of Ewz's solar participation, as does a short spot at the Cinéma Solaire Openair cinema.

The campaign is flanked by a RonOrp collaboration. Short videos featuring solar architect Ladina Schöpfer and solar racer Gian-Leo Willi from the ETH student project "A-Centauri" will be shown. In addition, Cedric Schild from Izzy Projects is on the trail of solar worshippers. And Energy Zurich is using radio spots to encourage people to drink solar green tea, use solar computers and listen to solar radio - appropriately complemented by Ewz's solar weather sponsorship.

Ewz: grüne Wärme liegt in unserer Hand https://www.markt-kom.com/en/kreativity/kampagnen/ewz-gruene-waerme-liegt-in-unserer-hand/ Tue, Oct 24, 2023 11:58:56 +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=205307

The time for oil, coal and gas is definitely running out. Today, the energy future of tomorrow is being built so that the city of Zurich can heat without CO2 emissions. The new heating networks use lake water, wastewater and sewage water for this purpose. To do this, a few degrees of temperature are extracted and the water is returned intact. Using heat exchangers, entire neighborhoods can be heated in an environmentally friendly way.

The poster campaign designed by Ruf Lanz is intended to show that we have to take these generational projects into our own hands - and do it now. Photographer Mirjam Kluka implemented the concept for the fall wave with models Andreas and Katherina, who were the most liked in the spring wave. "The market research showed over 80 percent likeability. We are pleased about that and it speaks for the fact that this is well received by 200,000 households in the city of Zurich," says Katrin Rüesch from Ewz.

Alongside this, a quiz with fun questions conveys the topic of green warmth in a playful way. The quiz is activated on hanging boxes in buses and streetcars, on Facebook and Instagram. It was developed with Brame's tool and brings an average of over 300 QR code scanners per week to join in and smile along.

Publicis baut die Solarstadt Zürich weiter aus https://www.markt-kom.com/en/kreativity/kampagnen/publicis-baut-die-solarstadt-zuerich-weiter-aus/ Mon, July 3, 2023 12:52:10 +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=200314 More than 1,900 unused private roofs in Zurich offer a huge potential of over 1 million square meters for solar power production. To ensure that this potential does not remain unused, EWZ is looking for property owners who are willing to make their roof available for the construction of an EWZ solar plant.

With the new campaign and the slogan "Make Zurich a solar city", EWZ encourages property owners to actively shape the future of the city. In this way, they not only contribute to the protection of the kilometer, but also benefit from their own solar power without having to invest themselves. And EWZ customers who live in rented accommodation can also participate in a total of seven new Zurich solar plants.

In the public space, OOH and DOOH measures along the most important traffic axes, at bus stops, at Zurich's main train station, and within public transportation call for action. In the digital area, EWZ exclusively addresses the tenants. Here, the focus is on quickly conveying information about ewz's solar power initiative, which is specifically tailored to activation and the sales process. The campaign is running from today and will continue into the summer.
