Rethinking the Economy. Less "hamster wheel" and more life.
Sarina Spiegel
Publisher: oekom
Year of publication: 2025
Pages: 240
ISBN: 9783987261640
Who is responsible for the ills of our time—social inequality, burnout, and environmental destruction? Our capitalist economic system—Sarina Spiegel is convinced of this. In her book, she advocates for an economy oriented toward the common good rather than mere growth. She calls for greater government intervention, higher wealth taxes, and stricter emissions limits. All of this is presented in a casual tone and through authentic-sounding stories that are clearly aimed at a young audience. Whether or not you share Spiegel’s controversial views, her book offers valuable food for thought and sound arguments. Anyone who engages with them will be well-prepared for the next heated debate.

Martina Muttke
Publisher: De Gruyter
Publication year: 2026
Pages: 154
ISBN: 9783112234082
Good leadership is complex. So is the way the brain works. The points of overlap between these two areas are correspondingly diverse—and, thanks to new findings in neurology, they are becoming increasingly relevant to everyday business life. Martina Muttke, a medical doctor, coach, and investor familiar with both topics, provides a well-researched yet accessible overview in her book. She explains how neurotransmitters, stress, and trust shape our performance and what role emotions and physical processes play in this. Some of her arguments may seem extreme, while others are well-known—yet even these provide valuable insights for anyone seeking to rethink leadership.

Hans-Werner Grunow, Sandra Stassinet, and Christoph Zender
Publisher: Springer Gabler
Publication year: 2026
Pages: 196
ISBN: 9783658495046
The market for sustainable finance is growing, but it is by no means a sure thing, as the authors of this book know. They describe the great potential that „sustainable finance“ can unleash in the economy, but also the hurdles that still need to be overcome. Much of the discussion revolves around the question of what is sustainable and what is not. Anyone seeking to demonstrate the sustainability of a transformation project to investors must comply with a wide range of regulations. The book offers valuable guidance on how sustainable companies can improve their financing prospects.

ISBN: 9783446484993
There’s no question that quality is a competitive advantage. That’s why quality management is essential—but it does sound a bit dry. Mechanical engineer Benedikt Sommerhoff manages to present this subject—which at first glance seems dry—in a very accessible way, thanks to a systematic structure, a wealth of useful infographics, and language that gets straight to the point. This makes the book interesting even for readers outside of quality departments. Anyone who wants to know how to build a quality-oriented organization will find this book a valuable resource.

Many executives go into negotiations relatively unprepared, the authors—all of whom are experts in negotiation—lament. In their guidebook, they offer far more than mere rhetorical tips. It is more of a strategic handbook that views negotiation as a controllable process. Instead of relying on intuition, the authors focus on the „three Ps“: people, problem, and process. Particularly valuable is the combination of classic Harvard theory with practical techniques used in police and hostage negotiations. Thanks to numerous real-world examples and checklists, the book can be put into practice immediately.

There are many guidebooks on the subject of stress. What sets this book apart from many others is its holistic approach. The two authors do not limit themselves to tips on what to do in acute stress situations. Instead, they go deeper and look for the inner prerequisites and personality traits that promote stress. According to their main message, stress takes place in the mind and therefore cannot simply be breathed away. This guide provides many examples, tools and helpful insights to support the cognitive work that is effective against stress.

In collaboration with GetAbstract, we present four books from the marketing and communications sector. This time: "Rethinking Female Power", "Smart Management", "The Creativity Code" and "Insider Espionage".

Eva Thöne
Publisher: Hanser Berlin
Year of publication: 2025
Pages: 256
ISBN: 9783446283022
What is the reason that extremely self-confident men like Trump or Musk have so much power, while women like Angela Merkel are at best respected as powerful mother figures? Eva Thöne says: Millennia-old myths shape our idea of who is entitled to power and who is not. Women are only mentioned in passing. This not only harms women. It also means that alternative, more democratic forms and structures of power hardly stand a chance. An astute plea for a more open, multi-layered view of the world that does not rely on personal power, but on factual orientation and shared responsibility.

Rational action, utility maximization and optimal decisions are impossible in a complex world with uncertainty and unsolvable problems. Heuristics, on the other hand, work - they are simple rules that can be used to cut complexity like a Gordian knot. The trick, however, is to use the right heuristics in the right context. The authors present many of these methodical shortcuts and also explain why they often deliver faster, more economical, more accurate and more transparent results than complex decision trees and algorithms.

Guidebooks were the second most popular item to land in Galaxus customers' letterboxes. Novels and short stories (fiction) took bronze place. However, Galaxus recorded the biggest growth in sales of non-fiction books. In 2023, 59% more of these ended up in customers' shopping baskets than in the previous year. In December, these three books came out on top: Power - The 48 laws of power, The book you wish your parents had read and Piper Breath - Breath

As a rule, there are plenty of books under the Christmas trees. For the book trade, December is traditionally the month that brightens the annual balance sheets. But in 2022, that was not the case: Compared to December 2021, sales in bookstores as well as in online stores fell by a total of 9.8 percent, according to the Swiss Booksellers and Publishers Association (SBVV) on Thursday.
The balance sheet for December looks even bleaker when price increases are factored out. The volume of books sold slumped by 11.7 percent. This is "drastic" for the industry, wrote the SBCV.
The association highlights sales of non-fiction books, which were low throughout the year and even fell by 13.1 percent in December. The most important product group, fiction, also recorded a drop of 8.9 percent in December.
The industry is being squeezed by inflation, it said. Publishers in particular are "burdened by the enormous increase in paper, energy and transport prices. Book prices rose by an average of 0.4 percent throughout last year, and by as much as 2.2 percent in December compared to the same month last year. But the annual inflation of just under three percent in Switzerland only partially compensates for the higher book prices.
GfK Entertertainment collected the figures as part of its industry monitor book, which is commissioned by SBCV. SBCV plans to publish the detailed market report at the end of February.

Ex Libris is the largest media online store in Switzerland with more than six million books and e-books in its range. The company was founded in 1947 as a book club, so is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. "The right book for every:n for 75 years" is the slogan of Ruf Lanz's anniversary campaign. After there had been already an advertisement with hobby pilot Alain Berset in the Sunday press in the summer to it (Advertisingweek.ch reported), the actual campaign now follows.
The main medium is posters at locations with a high dwell time, e.g. at public transport stops. Because of the longer lead and deployment time of posters, Ruf Lanz has designed various motifs that are intended to have an effect beyond the current day. On them, some familiar-looking heads can be seen behind matching books. One is suspiciously reminiscent of the man who had just described his renewed US presidential candidacy in 2024 as "very, very, very likely", another of the father of the neutrality initiative. Other motifs allude to current issues via book titles, such as the emergency guidebook "Cooking without Electricity" in the hand of a chef or the animal book "Wolves - Our Wild Neighbors" in the hand of a hunter. The Ex Libris anniversary campaign can be seen on F200 posters and e-panels as well as situationally on ads and banners.

External partners: Detail AG.

Founded in 1947 as a book club, Ex Libris says it is now the largest media online store in Switzerland. A huge selection of books and e-books can be found on Exlibris.ch be ordered.
"For 75 years, the right book for everyone. At a low price." is therefore the slogan of a current campaign that was shown in the four major Sunday newspapers at the weekend.
On it, Federal Councilor Alain Berset can be seen behind the book "Sky Guide - Der Reiseführer zum Luftraum". The subject is intended to allude to the Federal Council's recently publicized stray flight over France.
The mischievous motif was designed and realized by the Ruf Lanz agency.

Practice Guide for Artificial Intelligence in Marketing and Sales
Examples, concepts and use cases.
AI-based marketing makes it possible to address customers in a personalized way and to use advertising in a highly targeted manner. In his book, Laurenz Wuttke explains in detail what is possible with AI in marketing. One example among many is the calculation of purchase probabilities. The author goes into great detail about the technological background and how it works. In comparison, he sketches the practical benefits rather roughly. However, some practical examples help to remedy the situation. Overall, this is a book that offers a good insight into the potential of AI in marketing and sales.

Why adaptability is the most important future competence.
In our rapidly changing world of work, adaptability is a key skill. It's even more important than a high IQ or emotional intelligence, says Carl Naughton. He shows how you can become more adaptable - that is, more flexible, creative and innovative. His tips are not entirely new, but he backs them up with numerous studies and anecdotes from everyday work. The emphatically relaxed style may not be everyone's cup of tea, but some valuable advice can still be drawn from the book.

How companies motivate every employee to achieve exceptional results.
What is the secret of success for outstanding companies? For Marty Cagan and Chris Jones, there is no doubt: strong product managers and product teams that act on their own responsibility make the difference. They explain in detail and with passion why freedom and real responsibility are essential for the development of really good products. In doing so, they make one thing unmistakably clear: much more important than individual top performers are general enthusiasm, openness and trusting cooperation.
